Power Electronics Engineering Manager

Position Summary
A leading company in the motion control and electronics manufacturing industry is seeking a hands-on Power Electronics Engineering Manager to lead its electrical engineering function and provide deep technical leadership.
This role oversees the architecture, design, and release of high-power, high-density motor drives and power conversion products-from concept through production and sustaining engineering. The position combines strong technical expertise in power electronics with team leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the electrical engineering team, including oversight of PCB engineering and management coordination with mechanical engineering
- Define technical direction for power electronics architecture, design methodologies, and hardware platforms aligned with product roadmaps
- Architect and review power stages for motor drives and AC/DC conversion, focusing on efficiency, thermal performance, and reliability
- Guide design of gate drive circuits, sensing systems, and protection schemes
- Oversee analog control loop design, stability, and filtering across operating conditions
- Drive EMI/EMC compliance strategies including filtering, grounding, shielding, and layout considerations
- Oversee auxiliary power supply design (isolated and non-isolated)
- Establish and validate thermal, loss, and derating analysis to ensure performance margins
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Conduct trade studies and provide technical guidance on cost, performance, and risk
- Manage project priorities, staffing, and execution across engineering teams
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, test, firmware, and applications teams
- Support product bring-up, troubleshooting, and customer escalations
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in power electronics design (15+ preferred), including industrial motor drives or power conversion systems
- Prior technical leadership or engineering management experience
- Strong expertise in analog closed-loop control design and stability analysis
- Experience with high-power mixed-signal systems (up to ~800V / 500A)
- Hands-on design experience with switching and linear power supplies (isolated/non-isolated)
- Proficiency with simulation tools such as SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink or Mathcad
- Experience leading PCB design reviews for high power density and low EMI
- Strong cross-functional leadership and project management capabilities
Education
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering required
- Ph.D. preferred
- Strong foundation in power electronics, control systems, and hardware design
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading engineering teams in a product development environment
- Familiarity with UL/IEC and other regulatory standards
- Knowledge of motion control and servo drive systems
- Exposure to embedded systems, DSP, or firmware integration
- Experience with C or embedded toolchains (for collaboration/debugging)
- Expertise in power semiconductors (Si, SiC, GaN) and magnetics design
- Strong thermal management and system-level design experience
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, Monday-Friday
- Based in a Camarillo, CA manufacturing facility
- Additional hours may be required based on business needs
Compliance Requirement
This position is subject to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR). Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents.
Compensation
$175,000 - $210,000 annually
Compensation is based on experience, skills, and market considerations.
